I had a portfolio presentation today, and I’ve been preparing all week. This weekend I built a tray for my small books, and a suitcase-style box to house the tray and three 12″x16″ pieces. I’d forgotten how much fun (and frustrating) it is to build boxes.

Wow,this is a beatuful portfolio and a great idea. I like the tray especially.
Your box looks wonderful. It’s been awhile since I have made one. they can be fun and frustrating.
You build a mean box! I could use your skills. I adore your blog banner by the way.
Thanks, y’all. I had a good time making the tray and the suitcase. I had a smaller commercial cardboard “suitcase” that I’ve always liked, and I took that as a pattern. The suitcase had a handle on top and an industrial-size snap at the V of the flap. I considered doing those as well, but wasn’t sure where to find the snap. I still like it without any hardware.
I love it! And I can’t believe you did it in a weekend! (you must not have had any other distractions!) And what kind of portfolio presentation was it?
Margaret, it was done in a sort of excess of anxiety. I was interviewing to go back to school. “Back” being an inexact word, since I left as an accounting major and will be returning as an art major. So making the box and tray kept my hands busy and my brain slightly less so 🙂
Ha ha–I too am busy these days, writing an essay so I can apply to a program for a COUNSELING degree! I’m thinking maybe art therapy, ultimately. Too bad the two of us can’t just swap the degrees we already have! (Mine was actually in graphic design, but there were lots of ‘real’ art classes along the way.) Good luck!
Looks absolutely stunning Beth… as always! Well done girl!
Love Poppie x
Thanks, Sue. And did I mention that I did get into art school?? I start this summer. Yay! Or perhaps I should be saying “woo-hoo” — it’s a little more hip, right? (And yes, I do understand that the word is “hip” is not hip at all.)
