Assuming I choose <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artlex.com\/ArtLex\/d\/destijl.html\">De Stijl<\/a> as my period, these are elements of my design at the left. The card denominations will be rendered in this &#8220;font&#8221; made by creating a 5&#215;9 black-block grid (+1 for the tail of the Q) and subtracting blocks from it for each character.<br \/>Following are the four suits:<br \/>1 &#8211; Van Doesburg<br \/>2 &#8211; Mondrian<br \/>3 &#8211; Van der Leck<br \/>4 &#8211; Huszar (not completed yet)<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a whole lotta square.<\/p>\n<p>Edited to add: Looking at this post I realize I&#8217;m missing an A for Ace. It&#8217;s the zero in the Roman numerals of cards, I guess.<\/p>\n<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_p-m6o9O32-o\/SRiIxBzUG3I\/AAAAAAAAAo8\/_8_30PbEsY8\/s1600-h\/11_10_randomLettering.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 270px; height: 320px;\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_p-m6o9O32-o\/SRiIxBzUG3I\/AAAAAAAAAo8\/_8_30PbEsY8\/s320\/11_10_randomLettering.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5267110140088425330\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Here&#8217;s a bit of an antidote to all that square. A somewhat random image, I know, with stream-of-consciousness text, but randomness and stream-of-conscious are just what&#8217;s needed after a bout with De Stijl.<br \/>I broke out the pen and ink this morning. This nib was on its last legs but I only had three lines of sample lettering to send via email to a client, so I powered through.<br \/>Later I went back to the drawing table for the somewhat unfamiliar pleasure of lettering, and to convince myself to throw the nib away.
